A new development in Horizon 2020 is the Open Research Data Pilot, which aims to improve and maximise access to the research data generated by EU-funded projects. Benefits of taking an active approach to research data management include increased speed and ease of access, efficiency (fund once, reuse many times), and improved quality and transparency of research.

Hosted by the Right to Research Coalition and SPARC, OpenCon 2015 will bring together students and early career academic professionals from across the world to learn about the issues, develop critical skills, and return home ready to catalyze action toward a more open system for sharing the world’s information — from scholarly and scientific research, to educational materials, to digital data.  OpenCon 2015 will be held on November 14-16 in Brussels, Belgium.

This workshop will bring you up to date on two important EU-funded projects currently underway. One is FOSTER (Foster Open Science Training for European Research), a project focused on enabling and providing training courses on all aspects of Open Science. We will report on the courses that have taken place, those still to come and on the online training materials the project is creating. The other project is PASTEUR4OA (OA Policy Alignment Strategies for European Union Research), which is focused on OA policy.

A Workshop on the OpenAIRE2020 FP7 post-grant Gold Open Access Pilot will be held on June 24th at the LIBER Annual Conference in London. This workshop will present the progress of the LIBER-led, OpenAIRE2020 Gold Open Access Pilot and discuss the Pilot’s goals, challenges and working procedures.

Este piloto se está aplicando en el contexto del proyecto OpenAIRE2020, y está alineado con la red de infraestructura de acceso y el apoyo abierto proporcionado por OpenAIRE.

He is is Regius Professor of Geology and Vice Principal Emeritus at the University of Edinburgh, the lead author on “Science as an open enterprise", president of CoDATA (International Council for Science : Committee on Data for Science and Technology) and shares his own research as a glaciologist.
